Congratulations on your landslide victory that will carry you to the White House. I live in Joplin, in the heart of the very Republican SW of Missouri. Thank you for helping to bring some parity to a rough political area. It got pretty lonely around here for some of us Democrats over the last 8 years.
I teach 3rd grade in Carl Junction, MO and I take great interest in the direction of education in our country.
Goosebumps: The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight dvd At first, I had high hopes for the ideas in the the No Child Behind Act. However, the Secretary of Education’s implementation of the act went completely off course. I think that is in part because the national leader of education, Secretary Spellings, was not, and had never been, an educator. As a matter of fact, only one Secretary of Education was actually a K12 classroom teacher, and he authored the partisan report, “Nation at Risk
.”
If you want to know how to make education better in America, ask a classroom teacher. I urge to choose your new Secretary of Education wisely. I care deeply for the future of public education in our country, so please choose someone who has real, classroom teacher experience for your next national leader of education.

Too often decisions about education are made by people who have no clue what it is like inside a classroom from the teacher side of the desk. Mr. Obama seems like a very smart man, and I hope he chooses well. Good luck and Godspeed as you move into the White House.
