K12 Online Conference Reflection #18
This is my reflection on the K12 Online conference presentation:
Obstacles to Opportunities
“Starting From Scratch: Framing Change for All Stakeholders”
by Ben Wilkoff
Denver, Co, USA
What were the main points made during this session, the “takeaways?”
- Starting from scratch is more than complaining. It is examining what we are doing.
- Framing change means moving the frame of reference beyond the status quo.
- The frame looks like contextual, connected, collaborative, change-driected, conversational, and continuous learning
- The frame for stakeholder
- teacher – concrete examples of how the tools work pedigogically
- students – proof of daily authentic learning
- parents – want old frame until they see what children are doing
- administrator – results, big picture, student work
- Evaluate the frame to make sure it is not just a passing fad
In terms of your own professional development, what did you gain from the session?
I love the slideshow. It has great movement over the image on the slide to make it more interesting. This is much better than powerpoint.
These are great talking points and views from perspectives of various stakeholders. The main thing is to focus on what is best for the kids, asking the big questions about what we should be doing, and showing that is can be done.
What questions did you have after this presentation?
What program did he use to make the slideshow.
Where do I get the concrete examples to show how technology changes in education in classes.
How will you apply the learning to your professional situation?

Since I have computers in my classroom this year, people will want to know why, how I’m using them, and does it add to or distract from the learning. We may want to expand a model for integrating technology, and we will need a framework for persuasion to get started and information to train the teachers after we do start implementing a model.
What other resources (including reading material) are relevant to this session?
