K12Online2007 Conference Reflection #15
This is my reflection on the K12 Online conference presentation:
Professional Learning Networks
“Webcasting for Educators: Expanding the Conversation”
by Jen Wagner Corona, CA USA, Cheryl Oakes Wells, ME USA, Vicki Davis
Camilla GA USA, Sharon PetersMontreal, Quebec Canada
What were the main points made during this session, the “takeaways?”
- SharonHow to participate in WOW on EdTechtalk.
- Cheryl - Behind-the-scenes look at how they start a webstream
- Jen - How WOW started
- Advice by Jen - How to start your own webcast
- Jen - Organizing the webcast with a wiki
- Vicki - Connecting with Skype
- Vicki - sharing links
- Sharon - Jeff and Dave the founders of Worldbridges talk about it’s history
- Cutting Edge connections - Google Docs
In terms of your own professional development, what did you gain from the session?
Wow! Webcasting is complex. I had no idea starting a webstream had so many windows open at the same time.
The skype backchannel is like the backstage walkie-talkie to keep the show running smoothly and on cue.
They make it sound so easy.
What questions did you have after this presentation?
How much time weekly does it take pre and post production?
How will you apply the learning to your professional situation?
Dare I try webcasting with my students?
I have participated in several Edtech shows both with chat and on Skype
Maybe someday I’ll go through the Webcast Academy sometime and start my own webcast with someone.
What other resources (including reading material) are relevant to this session?
